Reviewing the new McDonalds products one bite at a time

Twix McFlurry – Football Mania

So not a great photo I admit but they didn’t have a Twix McFlurry tub?!? Very disappointed!

When I first thought about getting this McFlurry I thought it was going to be a bit boring and basic. With just chocolate covered biscuit and caramel sauce.

I was very much shocked when I saw the caramel sauce with a darken touch to it so I instantly assumed it was also chocolaty. Which it was!

The caramel sauce was very sweet but with a hint of chocolate in it, it was just right. I also had a feeling the biscuit was going to be a bit soft I was wrong again and it was lovely and crunchy.

Although it didnt really resemble a twix it still had the twix features. It was good but at the end of the day nothing hugely special.

Due to that fact I’m going to give it a kind 7/10

Fairly enjoyable but no WOW factor really

UPDATE : The Tub

Chicken Maestro – Football Mania @ McDonalds

So I done a double try today. Checked out the twix McFlurry and the chicken maestro.

The chicken burger itself is different from the McChicken Sandwich as it’s bigger and has a more southern fried feel to it. To go with it, it has Garlic and Herb Mayo, tomato and crunchy lettuce. The bun is also square shaped with a herb that seems a lot like rosemary from the smell on top.

The burger was a lot like the chicken legend but I would say it had a small amount of more spice. This spice is let down a bit by the cooling garlic and herb mayo. It had nice fairly crunchy lettuce In the burger with a simple slice of tomato.

This felt a lot like the chicken legend and really i didn’t get the need for the addition of this burger. Really it was only ok. And honestly I didn’t see why they put the herbs on top as it didn’t really help the burger and the smell was actually a little bit overpowering while eating it. The only reason I can think they done it was because they wanted to make it different from the legend.

After trying it with my friend Luke he felt same and felt it was actually fairly pointless.

This gets a disappointing 5/10. Try again McDonalds

Cheese & Bacon Striker – Football Mania @ McDonalds

  • 100% Beef patty
  • Big Tasty cheese
  • Bacon
  • Batavia lettuce
  • Cheese sauce
  • Sesame topped bun.

The first thing I notice about this burger is the bun, is it me or does it look like a football?

That said I think the bun shape adds a bit more texture to the burger and the lettuce is a bit bigger than usual and quite crunchy which I like.

Big Tasty Cheese is always a plus, it creamy and more mature than the usual stuff, the one thing I couldn’t quite decide on was the cheese sauce – to me it was a little vinegary but hey maybe that’s your thing? Like the Big Tasty I found the bacon a bit superfluous and almsot couldn’t tell it was there.

Overall a good range of texture and flavours, rather filling and enjoyable to eat. It ranks among the middle of the Taste of America Range giving it a respectable:

Dream Team Sharebox

So today I got to try the dream team Sharebox which consists of ten chicken nuggets and ten onion rings,

This is mainly going to be focusing on the onion rings but there will be a short mention of the mixture of chicken nuggets.

So I am partial to some onion rings every now and then so it was a nice surprise to have onion rings on the menu. So I got myself a share box. First look they were fairly crispy with a deep brown colour. Possibly overcooked because pictures show them quite light coloured but it wasn’t the end of the world. I had about 5 big onion rings and 5 disappointingly small ones. The big ones were similarly like the onions rings you used to get from TGI Fridays. They were fairly crispy but quite light in the middle which made for quite a nice combination.

Despite them being nice and unique for McDonald’s I don’t see them being around past the summer or even the conclusion of this promotion unfortunately.

Now for the mixture with the nuggets. I love the 20 nugget box it is truly great to share with a meal. But this is definitely good to. It is a good combination and adds a bit of variation.

A nice addition so a cheeky 7/10 for the onion rings!

How great is it that the starburst milkshake is still around?!?!

McFlurry – McDonalds Taste of America – 2012

Original Chocolate Fudge Brownie McFlurry 2012

Original Chocolate Fudge Brownie McFlurry 2012

So Taste Of America is ending and we will soon see the next promotion that McDonalds will be giving us.

I’ve given the fudge brownie mcflurry a few tries now and thought it was time that I expressed my views.

Being a renowned lover of everything fudge brownie it had a lot to live up to, especially as it is usually Oreo mcflurry at this time of year (which is my 2nd favorite mcflurry behind the amazing creme egg).

The flurry is relatively simple really, just ice cream, brownie and chocolate fudge sauce. Despite this it is very nice I thought.

The brownies have a very nice texture and are the right balance between crunchy and soft. And with an extra helping of chocolate fudge sauce this is a very nice after meal treat.

It’s gone to joint 2nd favorite mcflurry with Oreo now and is getting and highly rated 8/10 come back next year please!

The Arizona Nacho Grande Burger – Taste of America – Week Three

So we’re half way through Taste of America:

Burger number three is the Arizona Nacho Grand:

  • Oval 100% beef patty
  • Pepperoni Slices
  • Nacho-style (cheese) sauce
  • Crunchy Nacho Chips
  • Shredded lettuce (No Onions)
  • Cheese slices
  • Served in a sesame topped bun (ours actually came with the chilli-chive bun)

This is the first itme that Nachos have appeared in one of the Taste of America (UK) burgers and they add a slight corny flavour and a very interesting texture, crunchy like the lettuce but in a less crisp way. Along with the cheese, gooey cheese sauce and salty pepperoni make this a great variety of textures and of flavours. This has some spiciness but not as spicy as than last weeks Chicago Supreme.

After a lot of deliberation we decided that this was lightly better than last weeks and thus the best so far in 2012.

7/10 (8/10 with chilli-chive bun)
